Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Mark Twain

Large Fish

I think what Mark was trying to say was… How long is it since you have been fishing?

Emphasis at Mandurah Fishing Charters is on fun and fishing hard. Instruction is given to those not familiar with deep sea fishing. Gentle encouragement given to get satisfactory results. We don't just go out and drift aimlessly around.
MFC actively work our sounder, work the ground and fish hard.

On board your Mandurah Fishing Charter boat we have a very good variety of fishing gear. Choose from quality overheads, light tackle and heavy duty. You can choose from braided and mono filament line, 10" Alvey reels on ugly sticks ...great for BIG fish, quality Penn side casters for more delicate fishing and we only use, quality bait.

Caution is a most valuable asset in fishing, especially if you are the fish. Source Unknown

You are welcome to bring your own fishing gear if preferred. Mandurah Fishing Charter's fish as responsible hunter gatherers, that is to say we target quality fish, humanely kill size fish raised, gut and clean (and put in our Eski) ready to go in the oven or for you to fillet. We release all undersize fish or fish not required as quickly as possible.

We are constantly working the sounder and searching out new ground and new fish. Sustainability is the catch cry in the industry and we strictly abide by both size and catch limits. Fish for the future!

The fishing was so good I thought it was LAST week. -David Maguire

FROM THE SKIPPER

I have both lived and fished in Mandurah since the early 1960’s. Prior to this I would holiday here on a regular basis and have very fond early memories of clear water and lots of crabs in the estuary.

Mandurah was a firm favourite with all the family as both my Mother and my Grand Parents would holiday here as well. They used a holiday home in Ormsby Tec, not far from the old Peninsula Hotel. This was in the days before the mouth of the estuary had the extensive rock works done, so on occasion they would be flooded out like everyone else there including Mr Blakeley seniors hotel.

As I grew older and I remember enjoying a session or two at the PEN and I can still vividly remember the old photos that hung in the front bar of incredible catch's of Dhu fish and Snapper.

When questioned about fishing "Old Harold", the licensee of the PEN would simply say “We would just take Canopus (a 30 ft sailing boat) out to the James Service reef and get what ever we liked.”

The abundance was the same with crabs and the prawns and rarely a night would go by without several people jostling for positions under the old Mandurah Bridge. At one point a local by-law was introduced by the Council to restrict the amount of room each fisherman could commandeer on the landing under the bridge.

Literally gallons of king prawns were caught by each person along with dozens and dozens of crabs. Cobbler was also prolific in the Estuary. Several professional fishermen made their living from net fishing but as the years have passed more and more licences have been purchased back by the government.

We ask a simple question and that is all we wish: Are fishermen all liars? Or do only liars fish? William Sherwood Fox

So what’s my idea of a good days fishing?
When I book a charter at Exmouth, Coral Bay, The Abrolhos or the like I am satisfied whatever the catch results SO LONG as the skipper has given it his best shot. So long as he has worked his sounder, taken us to a variety of different ground and allowed us to get a few decent fish, if and when they come on the bite. I am always looking for good camaraderie between the skipper, crew and the fisherman plus I enjoy having a variety of quality gear to choose from.

As we only take up to six fishermen, I often get referrals from my friendly opposition and in return I refer larger bookings to them.

So the values I look for in others, is the same sort of a day out we like to give our clients. Hard sustainable
fishing, good fun, good quality gear, quality bait and excellent service.

Fishermen are born honest, but they get over it. Ed Zern

If you like fishing with smaller groups and a bunch of people determined to have a good time give us a call or
email direct. We will have you on the water in no time at all. If you have a group of more than six people we would be happy to refer you to one the larger operators.

As quality service is such a big part of having a fun day out, we have put in writing a 100% money back guarantee of service satisfaction. If for any reason, any of our clients have a problem with unprofessional or discourteous service, their money will be refunded in full.
